Vizag Volunteers - Doctor Consultation

When we wanted to help people to allocate test slots for the Virus, we have also thought about giving medical guidance for those whose test results turned out Positive.  Today, the situation being so tense, when  people came to know they are tested positive for the virus we gave home quarantine consultation with a doctor and for those whose condition was serious we helped in allocating beds in the COVID related hospitals.

Those who were tested positive and cannot afford the medical expenses near a doctor contacted us through Whatsapp messages and helpline number.There were a total of 254 people who were tested positive and were Home Quarantined. Mr. Praveen, head of this activity did regular monitoring and checkups on the home quarantine people under the guidance of Dr. Kavitha who is a specialist in pulmonology. The doctor consulted them in a regular and proper way and also guided them to eat proper diet food and medication. All 254 covid affected people were successfully recovered. We not only treated patients for whom we tested but also gave free doctor consultation to the people who reached us through helpline and couldn't afford treatment.

Whenever the doctor consultation team felt that the condition of the patient was critical or getting worse they allocated a bed in the respective COVID hospital for better treatment and recovery. Those who got their tests done outside and were in critical condition reached us through Facebook, Whatsapp and helpline for requiring beds and medications in CoVID hospitals were also helped during this activity. In total we successfully allocated 32 beds in COVID hospitals for severely affected patients.

If the doctor or the team felt that the patients were depressed we helped them to talk with the motivation team who gave them positive strength to fight the situation.

Feedback:

Most of them who fought with the virus and came out healthy have thanked Dr. Kavitha for her services. In this pandemic situation finding a doctor is very difficult but Vizag Volunteers have provided free doctor consultation services to all the people. They  were heart touched seeing a dignified and honest doctor without charging for any of her services and also contributed her consultation services to the needy in this pandemic.

The hospitality industry having unethical practices and hospitals charging lakhs of rupees for COVID patients have created a situation where people could not afford for it. They got a ray of hope through Dr. Kavitha who has given her 100% support to all the 254 affected patients and allowed them to stay at her place for a few serious cases to take extra care. Luckily no one has lost their lives and thanked Mr. Praveen who guided them through this situation and Dr. Kavitha for her timely consultation which helped them to fight against the virus and make their family safe in this pandemic.

Patient Name: Mr. Muralidhar, got affected with COVID virus and was home quarantined under the guidance of Mr.Praveen. The patient recovered completely and was happy for the great work Vizag Volunteers is doing for society and humanity. He also took initiative to donate plasma in AS Raja blood bank after the recovery. The only words he had to describe Vizag Volunteers was “GREAT”.

Patient Name: Raghav Kumar got affected with COVID on August 3rd 2020.  It happened due to going outside everyday for getting daily needs. The patient's got a CT scan done where the doctors said that he got affected with the virus. Immediately the family members took him to Pradhama hospital where they were refused to admit due to lack of beds and also the patients oxygen levels were below 90. All of them were confused not knowing what to do and took him to Chest hospital. The patient's daughter came in contact with Mr. Praveen who personally monitored the case under the guidance of Dr. Kavitha.  The patient recovered soon and thanked Vizag Volunteers and Mr. Praveen for the timely help.

Patient Name: Rajyalakshmi got tested positive for COVID and was admitted in Gitam hospital for treatment. Mr. Praveen followed up with her everyday and also got her entire family tested for the virus and also all the members of her orphanage. She was tense about her health and did not know how to express and whom to express. Mr. Praveen gave her consultation and she was able to recover soon. She was so thankful to the team of Vizag Volunteers to provide such guidance.

Conclusion:

When we started off with this activity we thought that a pulmonologist is a better choice for handling COVID patients in this type of situation as they have knowledge and better understanding of the functioning of lungs. We got lucky when our friend Dr. Kavitha gave us hope in the dark to provide us her services. She came upfront to give her full consultation free of charge. Vizag Volunteers member Mr.Praveen is the person who has handled many critical cases in some critical situations yet he has provided all the people with the best consultation and Home Quarantine safety.  There are a lot of heart felt stories to tell that are memories for life through the common man's eye and thought process. We had a motto to help all the people who come to us and at last we were happy we could do so and leave an incredible rempark in their minds about Vizag Volunteers services.
