Sheela Nagar food point acted as a second stop for migrants who came via Gajuwaka. This food point provided all the necessary care and as well as shelter. An under-construction building nearby was used to provide shelter to the tired migrants, and transportation was arranged for them from this food point via Auto or Truck.
During the COVID-19 lockdown, the Sheela Nagar Food Point played a crucial role in supporting migrant workers who were undertaking long and exhausting journeys back to their hometowns. Acting as a second stop for migrants traveling through Gajuwaka, this food point became a place of relief, rest, and assistance for those who had already covered significant distances on foot or by bicycle.
Many of the migrants arriving at Sheela Nagar were physically exhausted and in need of more than just food and water. Understanding their situation, Vizag Volunteers extended their support beyond basic necessities and worked to ensure that the migrants received care, comfort, and a safe place to rest before continuing their journey.
An under-construction building near the food point was utilized as a temporary shelter where migrants could take a break, recover from fatigue, and find protection from harsh weather conditions. This shelter provided much-needed relief to families, elderly individuals, women, and children who had been traveling continuously for several days.
In addition to food and shelter, the volunteers coordinated transportation support for migrants whenever possible. Arrangements were made through autos and trucks to help travelers reach the next stage of their journey safely and with greater ease. This assistance significantly reduced the physical burden faced by many individuals and families during an extremely challenging period.
The initiative highlighted the importance of collective action in times of crisis. By addressing multiple needs food, shelter, rest, and transportation Vizag Volunteers were able to provide holistic support to migrants who were among the most affected groups during the pandemic.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to all the volunteers, supporters, and community members who contributed to the success of this initiative. Their dedication helped countless migrant workers continue their journeys with renewed strength and hope.
The Sheela Nagar Food Point remains a powerful example of how kindness and community service can make a meaningful difference in the lives of people facing extraordinary challenges. 🍱🤝🏠💙
