The first food point to be started in Vizag for the migrants acted as a template for all the food points operated later. The food point had all facilities like food, rehydration fluids, medicines, first aid, sanitization, etc.
During the COVID-19 lockdown, as thousands of migrant workers began their difficult journeys back to their hometowns, Vizag Volunteers recognized the urgent need for organized relief and support. In response, the organization established its first food point in Visakhapatnam, which would later become the foundation and model for all the other relief centers operated across the city.
This food point was created with the vision of providing comprehensive assistance to migrant workers who were traveling under extremely challenging circumstances. Rather than serving only as a food distribution center, it was designed as a complete support point where travelers could access essential services required for their well-being and safety.
The relief center provided freshly prepared food, rehydration fluids, drinking water, medicines, first-aid support, and sanitization facilities. Volunteers worked tirelessly to ensure that every migrant who arrived received not only nourishment but also the care and attention needed to continue their journey safely. Special emphasis was placed on maintaining hygiene and health protocols, which were especially important during the pandemic.
As the number of migrants passing through the city increased, this food point became a crucial stop for many individuals and families. The organized systems, volunteer coordination, and support mechanisms developed here proved highly effective and were later replicated at other food points established by Vizag Volunteers across the city.
The initiative demonstrated the importance of planning, teamwork, and compassionate service during times of crisis. By addressing multiple needs at a single location, the food point provided holistic support to people who were often exhausted, dehydrated, and uncertain about the road ahead.
The success of this first food point laid the groundwork for a larger network of relief operations and inspired the establishment of additional support centers throughout Visakhapatnam. It became a symbol of community solidarity and demonstrated how organized volunteer efforts can make a meaningful difference during emergencies.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to all the volunteers, donors, and supporters who contributed to this pioneering initiative. Their dedication and compassion helped create a model of service that benefited thousands of migrant workers during the pandemic.
This first food point remains a proud milestone in the journey of Vizag Volunteers, reflecting the values of humanity, service, and collective action in times of need. 🍱💙🤝
