Visakhapatnam Railways Authority had assigned few government teachers to collect the details of people travelling from Hyderabad to Visakhapatnam by Godavari Express. As the employees were small in number and the crowd were high, and the risk of covid was persisting, the Railway authority approached our organisation for volunteer support. A team of 40 Vizag Volunteers joined hands to undertake and accomplish this activity. This activity started on June 5th 2020, and continued till July 1st 2020. The volunteers served the Railway authority regularly from morning 5 am till 7:30 pm.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, when public health and safety were of utmost importance, Vizag Volunteers stepped forward to support government authorities in managing the challenges posed by the movement of passengers between cities.
As part of the pandemic monitoring and safety measures, the Visakhapatnam Railway Authorities assigned government teachers to collect and record the details of passengers arriving from Hyderabad to Visakhapatnam on the Godavari Express. However, due to the large number of passengers, limited manpower, and the ongoing risk of COVID-19 transmission, the authorities required additional support to carry out the process efficiently.
Responding to this need, a dedicated team of 40 Vizag Volunteers joined hands with the Railway Authorities to assist in the operation. The initiative began on 5th June 2020 and continued until 1st July 2020, providing consistent support throughout the period.
Every day, the volunteers reported for duty from 5:00 AM until 7:30 PM, dedicating long hours to ensure that passenger information was collected and managed in an organized manner. Their responsibilities included assisting arriving passengers, helping with data collection processes, guiding travelers, managing queues, and supporting the authorities in maintaining smooth operations at the railway station.
This initiative played an important role in supporting public health measures during a difficult period. Accurate passenger information was essential for monitoring travel movements, facilitating communication when required, and helping authorities implement safety protocols effectively.
The efforts of the volunteers reflected the true spirit of community service during a time of crisis. By dedicating their time and energy for nearly a month, they demonstrated how collective action and civic responsibility can support government agencies and contribute to public welfare.
We extend our heartfelt appreciation to all 40 volunteers who participated in this initiative. Their commitment, perseverance, and willingness to serve during one of the most challenging periods in recent history made a meaningful difference to both the authorities and the community.
Through initiatives like these, Vizag Volunteers continue to stand alongside public institutions and communities, offering support whenever and wherever it is needed, especially during times of uncertainty and crisis. 🚆💙🤝
