After successfully completing the cloth distribution activity at Madugulla mandala, our team headed towards Vanajangi on the night of 26th December 2021.
The plan was to the camp at Vanajangi during the night, trek the hill on the morning of 27th December to collect garbage, create awareness and collect insights on the extent of damage done to the hill.
Our 30 members team started the trek of Vanajangi hill at 6 AM and reached the top at 7 AM. On reaching the top, we observed that the hilltop was contaminated with plastic waste such as polythene covers, snacks packets, water bottles, and burnt wood ash. The situation was terrible over there. Our volunteers reached out to the tourists present there and asked them to join us for the cleanup activity of the hill.
We started our cleanup at 7:30 AM and ended at 9:30 AM. A total of 30 bags of waste was collected on the hill. The bags were brought down the hill and kept at a dumping site near the hill.
The main idea of the cleanup was to create awareness of high tourist footfall in the ecologically sensitive area, which is being destroyed every passing day.
