  • Summary:

    The first food point to be started in Vizag for the migrants acted as a template for all the food points operated later. The food point had all facilities like food, rehydration fluids, medicines, first aid, sanitization, etc.

Zoo bus stop food point was one of the most active food points, identified on 12th May 2020; We first set up this food point. The food point provided food, water, medicines, rehydration fluids, masks and sanitisers. The zoo food point was the last before the migrants exited the city of Vizag; for that reason, they used to be provided all the first aid required and a good amount of dry food like biscuits and bread was provided to them to carry on their onward journey. Most of the food came from the food prepared at our OYO Townhouse kitchen; many good samaritans came forward to help the migrants by cooking food at their home and sending it to our food points.

The food point provided food, water, rehydration fluids, medicines, transport and masks. On average, 1500-2000 food packets were distributed daily.

How We Executed

We set up the zoo food point on the first day of help to migrant workers, i.e., 11th June 2020, curd rice was first provided with some sides to taste at 10 in the night to few migrants walking through the city. That day was followed by all other essentials like food, fluids, medicines, first aid, masks, and sanitizers. The food point was open to the public where anyone could come with their cooked food packets and donate them by following all covid19 safely protocols. We also arranged transport for the migrants at this food point via passing trucks or autos.
