  • Summary:

Sanitization of homes and workplaces during covid-19 was of utmost importance to ensure that the virus didn't survive on touchpoints and transmission in homes was reduced to a minimum. Therefore, our team conducted sanitization drives at home on request.

Sanitization of homes and workplaces was one of the important projects we initiated in the first wave of the covid-19 pandemic. When the cases were on the rise after the ease of restrictions, the idea to keep people safe arose in our minds when we saw many people infected with covid-19. After that, we got multiple requests for sanitization of homes to prevent infection of family members.

Usually, hand sanitizers contain flammable alcohol and are not advisable for home sanitization. So after some research, we used special chemicals that were non-flammable but efficient against the coronavirus. It was crucial to get a house sanitized if any family member tests positive for covid-19. Initially, no one would come home and sanitize the house. Vizag Volunteers has purchased the equipment and started home and office sanitization. We provided PPE kits for the safety of our volunteers during sanitization work. Depending upon the service, we used to hire the vehicles and complete the job. We had sanitized 100 plus homes and offices till now.

Most of our volunteers worked on the ground, helping people with food, blood, plasma, doctor consultation and many other services. Their family members were scared as they were exposed to many people during their daily work. So we provided them with the sanitization chemical and a spray bottle. This helped our volunteers prevent infection of the virus as they used to sanitize their homes regularly. We are happy that we could help the people get their homes and offices sanitized, keeping them and their families safe.

How We Executed

We procured the sanitization material from Sai chemicals, the Balaji agency and Rathod & Sons. Mr Prasad and Mr Narsingh actively took responsibility to sanitize homes. We did free services, and sometimes we provided our volunteers to a few organizations with the sanitizers but no manpower. We offered free services to poor people who could not afford to pay.

We provided PPE kits for the safety of our volunteers during sanitization work this made family members of the volunteers tension-free. Depending upon the service, we used to hire the vehicles and complete the job. We had sanitized 100 plus homes and offices till now.
