During the first wave of the Covid-19 pandemic, we took the initiative of feeding the poor of Vizag daily. This was later extended to low-income families living in Vizag. The situation in the city made us wonder about the situation in the tribal regions in Visakhapatnam, and we initiated projects to fulfil the food requirement of tribals. We initiated five projects to date in the tribal regions to distribute more than 500 grocery kits. We also identified 25 families of daily labourers working at Visakhapatnam Airport and provided them with grocery kits.

The food kit contains dry ration items sufficient for a family of 4 for 10-14 days. The cost for a grocery kit is INR 1000.

Impact

Donations to this campaign will help us feed a family. The tribals in the regions of Visakhapatnam are struggling to provide food to their families daily. They get their food from weekly markets set up near villages, and due to the prevalent covid-19 situation, the weekly markets are also cancelled. A grocery kit during these testing times will provide the necessary relief.
